Intolerance towards people who are considered “different” is increasingly present on the news around the world. Not only among adults, but also often among children and youth in diverse environments and especially in social networks. Carlotas is a social enterprise that works to create more harmonious relationships helping people to improve their socioemocionais skills. With that premise, the events aim to celebrate the beauty of diversity and appreciation of different cultures and identities.
“Respect Diversity” gatherings will happen simultaneously in Brazil, Germany and the United States. The concept of the events is to allow the participants to use their creativity to illustrate the multiplicity of points of view and also perceive themselves as agents of social transformation. We will create together new meanings for the differences, with new and more empathetic perspectives towards the others, with more respect and appreciation.
On September 25th Carlotas will get together with people and families in public spaces in Sao Paulo and Recife (Brazil), Munich (Germany), and in Princeton, NJ (United States). We will meet in Marquand Park, on Lovers Lane, from 11am to 1pm. The idea is to bring together children, youth and adults in a collective artistic activity to provide a moment of reflection on the diversity through art.
“Empathy is our best ally in the process of respecting and appreciating diversity. It is a way to foster the humanization of difference and to combat our own prejudices. It is a powerful tool for learning. Through empathy we can create a movement that can make a (r)evolution in connecting people and transforming relationships,” says Fabiana Gutierrez, co-founder of Carlotas.
